Gutter Replacement across the UK
Someone wants a full run of new uPVC or cast-iron guttering, downpipes and fittings fitted. Compare free, no-obligation quotes from vetted installers, typically £450 - £1,600 installed depending on your city and spec.
Gutter Replacement - what to expect
A full gutter replacement is the right call when the sagging is along the whole run, the material is beyond patching (perished uPVC that shatters when you touch it, or cast iron with rust holes right through), or when the fascia behind it is being replaced anyway. The other reason people replace working guttering is aesthetic - swapping white uPVC for Anthracite Grey or Black Ash to match new windows and doors is now one of the most common trade jobs.
For a standard two-storey semi expect around 15-20m of gutter, 8-12m of downpipe, plus outlets, angles, unions and stop ends. In uPVC that's £450-£850 fitted; in cast aluminium (period property or coastal) £1,100-£1,900; in cast iron (listed or conservation area) £1,800-£3,500. The profile choice matters as much as the material: Half Round is the default, Ogee (K-style) has a decorative front face that suits Victorian terraces, and Deepflow is a higher-capacity profile worth paying for on a large or steep roof where 112mm half-round would overflow in a storm.
The install itself makes more difference than the brochure spec. Fall should be 1:600 to 1:350 toward the outlet - too little and it pools, too much and it looks wrong from the street. Brackets at 900mm centres minimum, 600mm in exposed spots or with cast aluminium. Downpipes must discharge into a gully or soakaway, not straight onto the ground - Building Regs point often ignored on cheaper jobs. Ask about the swan-neck offset around the eaves and whether new brackets are fitted or old ones reused; reusing old brackets is why the new gutter sags in year two.
Typical UK price range for gutter replacement: £450 - £1,600 installed. Actual figures for your city sit on the city page below.

Before you commit - four things to check
- Ask what fall the installer is setting the gutter to - if the answer isn't a specific ratio, they don't know what they're doing.
- Insist on new brackets, not reusing the old ones - Old brackets cost £2 each; a re-sagged run costs £400 to redo.
- For coastal or exposed sites, ask for stainless steel fixings and marine-grade sealant rather than the standard galvanised.
- Check the quote covers new outlets and stop ends, not reusing them - grey plastic parts perish faster than the gutter itself.
